ABOUT SG
It started with a text:

From my friend Karen, February 20.
Then I didn’t hear from her for a couple of days.
When I finally saw her and asked what that was about, she walked me out to her car and opened the trunk. It was full of fabric, designer showroom samples she’d been collecting: velvets, ikats, kilims, embroidery. Gorgeous, and never more than a small piece of any one.
So I made a bag. Then another.
That’s how SG started.

The dining room, mid-sort. Supervisors on duty.

FROM SAMPLE TO BAG
One bag, start to finish.

01
Sort
Every batch starts as a pile of samples, sorted by color and mood.

02
Cut
Each exterior gets paired with the perfect lining and Horween handles.

03
Sew
Pinned and stitched inside out, handles tucked in.

04
Turn
My favorite moment, turning it right side out.

05
Done
One of one. Karen called first dibs.

THE MAKER
I'm Susan Griak.
I spent thirty years as an art director. Making bags turns out to be the same job: find the best piece, then crop it just right.

The bags are all different, and that’s what keeps it fun. Some fabrics put up a fight. Others I can’t wait to cut into. My favorite moment is the last one: turning a finished bag right side out. I make everything by hand, here in Minneapolis.
I hope you find the one with your name on it.
