Frequently asked questions
Is every bag really one of a kind?
Yes. Each SG bag is made from a designer showroom fabric sample in a quantity too small to ever make two. Once a bag sells, there isn’t another one like it.
Where does the fabric come from?
Designer showrooms. These are high-end upholstery and decorative textiles made for interior designers and their clients: velvets, ikats, kilim weaves, embroidered pieces.
What kind of leather do you use?
Horween leather, from one of the oldest tanneries in the US, in Chicago since 1905. The handles and strap tabs are Horween.
Who makes the bags?
I do, by hand, in Minneapolis.
What sizes do you make?
Currently, we have three sizes -- mini, small and medium. Here are the rough dimensions of the bag itself, though fabric thickness may change these very slightly:Mini - 7"w x 13"hSmall - 10"w x 15"hMedium - 13"w x 17"h
Do the bags come with a shoulder strap?
Shoulder straps are sold separately. Each bag has leather tabs, so you can add an SG strap or use one you already own.
What shoulder straps do you offer?
Cross-body webbing straps with brass or nickel hardware, plus chain straps. Some chains have hand-dyed silk ribbon, made from repurposed saris, or leather lace woven through.
How do I care for my bag?
Spot clean only. SG fabrics range widely in weight and weave. Some are heavy, durable upholstery textiles; others, like velvets and embroidered pieces, are more delicate. Keep your bag away from water and long periods of direct sun, and treat it with kindness and love.
Where can I buy an SG bag?
Online, at pop-ups and events throughout the year, and through select retailers. Follow @sghandbags on Instagram for upcoming dates, or get in touch to find a retailer near you.
Is my bag guaranteed?
Yes. Every SG bag is guaranteed against defects in sewing and workmanship for one year from purchase. If a seam or stitching fails because of how it was made, I’ll repair it at no charge.Horween leather is meant to change with use. It darkens, softens and develops a patina over time. That’s part of its character, so it isn’t a defect and isn’t covered under the guarantee.Normal wear and tear, like worn corners, scuffs, fraying or stains, isn’t covered either. These bags are made from real textiles and leather to be carried and used, and they’ll show it.See “Can I get my bag repaired?” for more.To start a repair, email contact@sgbags.com.
Can I get my bag repaired?
Yes. If a seam or stitching fails because of a defect in workmanship within one year of purchase, I’ll repair it at no charge.Repairs for normal wear and tear are welcome too. A service or materials fee may apply, and I’ll discuss it with you and get your approval before any work begins.Because every bag is made from a fabric sample too small to make two, I don’t have more of the original fabric to repair with. A hole, tear or worn spot will be mended or patched as carefully as possible. The repair will show, and it won’t make the bag like new again, but it becomes part of your bag’s story and makes a one-of-one bag even more yours.Leather handles and tabs can’t be replaced, because they’re built into the bag’s construction. To start a repair, email contact@sgbags.com.
Do you take returns?
Returns are accepted within 15 days of receipt, for store credit only. See our return policy for details.
